Optimism makes sense!

Optimism is often dismissed as false hope. But there is also false hopelessness. Optimism isn't a passive expectation that things will get better. It's a conviction that we CAN make things better and that we shouldn't look away or lose all hope. Even in dire situations, optimism can fuel innovation and lead to new tools to eliminate suffering. Optimism is essential to achievement and it is also the foundation of courage and true progress.

A pessimist sees difficulties in opportunities, an optimist sees opportunities in difficulties. Optimism is the tool that helps you to get up after you have fallen and keeps you moving towards the life you were meant to have.
Optimism is a happiness magnet.
If you stay positive, good things and good people will be drawn to you.
Optimists enjoy life's experiences twice - first in the anticipation, and then when they acctually arrive.
Optimism is not being naively convinced that things will be ok... because they might not be ok. Rather, optimism is knowing that YOU will be ok, no matter what. No matter what happens, the sun will rise again tomorrow and life goes on. Every day is a new oportunity.
Big things start from a single spark of courage.
Dare to dream.

Left and Right

   Which one are you?
.....
.....

“I am the left brain. I am a scientist. A mathematician. I love the familiar. I categorize.
I am accurate. Linear. Analytical. Strategic. I am practical. Always in control. A master of words and language. Realistic. I calculate equations and play with numbers.
I am order. I am logic. I know exactly who I am.”
  .....

I am the right brain. I AM creativity. A FREE spirit. I am passion. Yearning.
Sensuality.I am the sound of roaring laughter. I am  T A S T E.
The feeling of sand beneath bare feetI am movement. Vivid colors.
I am the URGE to paint on an empty canvasI am bound less imagination. Art.
Poetry. I sense. I feel. I am everything
wanted to be.

Harmony

Thought of the day:

Any pattern you get stuck in, is gonna create a problem!

That's just how it is. Even being addicted to "good" things, is an addiction.
No matter how useful the habbit is, there IS a circumstance out there, a context that you are gonna come across sooner or later, that you will be less adaptable in that situation for it.

The greatest joy in life is to make others smile

I'm working on my thesis about advertising.
This one here is one of the cutest commercials I have seen all day. Just had to share! :)
Parcels of joy. A modern Romeo-Juliet story.

Breathtaking time-lapse

Breathtaking shots of the Milky Way galaxy, filmed over the course of 7 days at El Teide, Spain’s highest mountain, renowned as one of the best places in the world to photograph stars.
At 00:32 a sandstorm hits in and is illuminated by light of the Grand Canary Island in the background, making it all seem golden.
The Earth is beautiful!

Learn more, do more, be more

A few wise words from Reid Hoffman, founder of LinkedIn, about becoming successful:

What should I do with my life? How do I bring my different interests together into a career? Most freshly graduated youngsters are a bit lost about what to do and how to continue on with wise moves. Here's a secret - that feeling of uncertainess about the future will never really go away.
The world IS changing and there is no clear and safe way anymore to secure a career. It's of key importance to be able to adapt. For anything desirable there is competition - many people WANT your dream job. The idea is to create a competitive advantage.
Your assets are what you have going for you now (your brains, your funds, your connections etc), your aspirations are where you would like to go in the future, and the market realities are what people will actually pay you for.
You might think that just graduated from the university and with no real work experience, you don't have much to offer to the world yet, that you can't make a real positive diference. Guess what - you'll be surprised how valuable your existing skills and connections are to those who don't have them.
Just ask others: "How can I help", and learn to understand other people's needs.
Learn to interact with people - in the end they control opportunities, resources and funds.
In other words - if you are looking for an oportunity, you are really looking for a person.
It's quite likely that someone you know, already knows someone who could help you.
The people you spend time with shape who you are..
...and who you will become! The fastest way to change yourself
is to hang out with people who are already the way you want to be.

Making mistakes is part of the learning process. You won't learn until you have tried!
If you want to start with something, maybe it would be a good idea to start interning with someone you admire, make connections, and see what happens. Offer to help out for free. Actions are what will get you somewhere, not planning.
In college, the most successful students make the fewest mistakes. But the most successful professionals learn to take intelligent risks. Ironically, in the hectic modern world, the biggest risk you can take is trying to play it safe with your career choice. There is always going to be some uncertainity and that's normal!
Don't dismiss a career path just because you keep hearing how risky it is - precisely for those beliefs these paths have less competition. Often the best oportunities are those with the most question marks.
Though two things you should never risk - losing all your economic assets or permanently damaging your reputation. And, rather value a chance to learn something important to a chance to get instant high salary.
Graduation is not the end of learing, we are always works-in-progress. In the world of work, every day is exam day. If you are not moving forward, you are moving backward. And the worst you can do, is not move at all! So start moving. Now!

It's about how you finish

"It's not about big ideas,
it's about how you finish them.
I don't want to have high target and finish it at 70%."
- Teemu Hamalainen
of Image magazine Helsinki.

Joy flows from within you

If you say that you like to do something, then that's really an illusion. Under an illusion, it seems that the joy you get from doing something, is coming from that specific activity you enjoy - but that's not true. Joy is not coming from WHAT you do, but it's flowing FROM you, INTO what you do, and from there on it keeps flowing into the world around you, beginning deep from within yourself. The false belief that joy comes from what you do is normal, but dangerous as well, because it makes you believe that joy begins from outside and is not dependant of you, yourself. After that you expect from the world that it would OFFER you joy and happiness. But the world can not offer you that. This is the reason why so many are living in constant frustration. The world is not offering them what they think they need.

"The primary cause of unhappinness is never the situation
but your thoughts about it."

Melt away your woes

If you’re feeling stressed or fed up with the world then just sit back, put your feet up and gaze at the screen. This utterly stunning time-lapse video by photographer QT Luong will melt away your woes in an incredible three minutes of jaw dropping scenery that will remind you what an incredible world we live in.
We thank Luong for enduring unpleasant temperatures, fierce winds and altitude sickness so that he could tickle our visual senses.
Check it out:

One of the most epic moments of childhood.. :)

...but worth to be watched again and again
and remembered!
**
From the day we arrive on the planet
And blinking, step into the sun
There's more to be seen

 Than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done.
It's the Circle of Life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
Till we find our place

On the path unwinding.

Follow the silent pull of what you love

"If any ounce of you wants to do science, it's your duty to do it."
Don't let others tell you anything diferent. Everything is possible! Follow the silent pull of what you truly love and you can't go wrong!

Carpe diem!

Sometimes good things fall apart, so you could build better things for tomorrow.
Life must go on - it's our choice if we drag along looking down in the dust, or keep our heads up high and enjoy the ride. In the end, that's what it is - just a ride. We live and we die and everybody has been given a certain amount of days, of experiences, in between. Don't fear a life that's changing! Fear a life unlived. Most people lead safe lives, set lives; most people don't take chances; most people merely exist, that is all. Go out there and do something extraordinary! Live! Take a chance! Feel! Trust in life! Enjoy the ride - it's here for you and it won't last forever! You are stronger than you think and the world is more amazing than you can possibly imagine.. but not taking the first step, you'll never find out.
The saddest thing in this world is a life unlived - a "what if" in the end of it.
So smile, and don't wish away your days for better ones to come.
Life is happening NOW!

Take your time

Sometimes you'll feel,
like a silly squirrel on the wheel,
like you don't have the strength
to do everything...

Don't worry -
you don't have to!

Take your time
to look around,
it's not too late
to live.
Open your eyes,
realize,
and you'll see -
you'll find joy
from just being
alive..!

I love the mellow version of Lenna singing this song..
sometimes you just have to take time out.

Turning point

I found
that every single successful person I've ever spoken to
had a turning point
and the turning point was where they made
 a clear, specific, unequivocal decision
that they were not going to live like this anymore.
Some people make that decision at 15 and some people make it at 50
and most never make it at all.

-Brian Tracy

Move past the metaphore

"Get ready to think! You're gonna use your brains!!"

Essentially education is about communication and coperation, not competition. It is about creating independent minds, not producing products following the factory model. We need to inspire our kids to think for themselves, not spoonfeed them ready-made exercises with ready-made answers. Transmitting information must be done in a way that is productive and meaningful and encouraging. Our teachers, first, need to get the confidence to be the inspiration, not just the transmitter.  Teaching is about caring and making the kid understand. It's more important to get the kids really learning something, not just "getting the work done".
Kids nowadays don't see school as an opportunity, but rather an obligation. And when they finally step out from the system as ready-made graduates, they find themselves completely lost... And that's sad.

Essentially everyone's target is to have life that's fulfilling, to truly become a better  person and contribute to the society the best way they can. To make it a better place. For everyone.
To live and be happy.

"If you wanna change the world, change the metaphore." (Joseph Campbell)
It's time to move past the factory-metaphore!
What's your metaphore for eduacation?

Don't be afraid

Shots of awe

Jason Silva came up with an idea to inspire people with quick SHOTS OF AWE
He is posting 2-minute videos that inspire and will make you see things from new perspectives. These videos  are as "philosophical espresso shots" that are meant to reset the nervous systems of people and open our eyes so we might see the wonder around us as though it was for the first time.
He says he is addicted to cognitive extacy - the thrilling moment of realization; when all the dots connect and you see the big picture... and he wants us all to get hooked, too!
:)
